Richard C. Erickson is a family practice doctor in rural Texas. Born in 1952 he has had a varied life with several careers. While he has been in Texas since 1980, he originally grew up in Connecticut, on Long Island Sound. Consequently, he is a sailing enthusiast, having owned several sailboats over the years. Additionally, he is an avid musician, playing the Flute, Guitar, and Banjo.
Dr. Erickson spent his early years in the US Air Force, both active and reserves, rising to the rank of Captain. Along the way he has obtained two medical registries, five undergraduate degrees and a graduate degree from medical school as a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO). He has taught at three universities, Midwestern State University, University of North Texas, Health Science Center at Fort Worth (while attending medical school), and the University of Texas – Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, teaching Family Medicine Residents. His true love, however, is rural family medicine. His published works include, multiple journal articles, a handbook on Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques (1993), several copyrighted novels, and a work of poetry.
Dr. Erickson is a strong supporter of the individuals right to seek happiness and opportunity in their own manner without interference or discrimination. However, it is also the responsibility of all individuals to respect the right of others to do the same. He wholly believes that tolerance, inclusion, and compromise are the keys to peace on earth.
Dr. Erickson has been blessed with five exceptional children and one wonderful wife, who puts up with his eccentricities with the patience of a saint.
